BORDERHACKS 2021 — PEOPLE'S CHOICE + OPEN DATA WINNER
WinParks
A mobile app helping people explore the trails, parks, and heritage sites of Windsor — built from the city's open data.
KotlinJetpack ComposeFirebase

## Problem
We bike Windsor's trails constantly — and still kept discovering parks we never knew existed. The city's open data had everything; no app made it explorable.
## Solution
WinParks lets users search nearby parks, trails, and heritage sites, see them on maps with photos and descriptions, rate them, and filter by interest — with authenticated personal profiles.
## Features
- Map-based discovery of parks, trails, and heritage sites
- Photos, descriptions, ratings, and interest filters
- Authenticated accounts with personalized profiles
## Tech Stack
KotlinJetpack ComposeFirebaseAndroid Studio
## Challenges
- Jetpack Compose was brand new — some things simply didn't work as documented, which cost significant build time
## Lessons Learned
- Android development, UI design, and persistence through unstable tooling
